Laurence Van Dam

Laurence graduated from Waikato University in 1990 with a BSc (Tech) with majors in Chemistry and Biological Science. He worked at the government Water Quality Laboratory DSIR (which later became NIWA) until 1996.

Laurence then joined Perkin Elmer Pty Ltd Instruments in Australia as a sales representative covering NSW and ACT territories. He then came back to NZ to run the NZ office for Perkin Elmer NZ. An opportunity arose to take over the NZ office and run it as his own business.

New Zealand Scientific Ltd was registered in 1999 and has slowly grown by adding complementary products with good people to sell, support and service them.

Laurence is proud to head the team at NZ Scientific Ltd and continue with its growth while striving to maintain and improve service levels. When Laurence is not working he is working (playing) with his mini excavator on his block or spending time with family.

 

John McConnell

John's speciality is close haul sailing. After unbelievably being overlooked as NZ America's Cup skipper he has lots of time available to provide instrument service support for NZ Scientific.

With a background as an electronics engineer, John has been servicing laboratory instruments since the invention of pH paper, and has a thorough understanding of the principles involved in analysis.

Having installed the electronic rain gauge on Noah's Arc, John has serviced many instruments none of us have even heard of, and as well as being a gun on the new stuff he has the experience to solve those tough problems on older equipment. 

 

 

 

 

Heather Simmonds

Heather has been keeping tabs on the administration side of our business since 2005.  Please contact her for comsumables / parts pricing, account and order enquiries or any other admin queries.  She is also the resident child minder / entertainer for the odd occasions that children come into work!

As our engineers / sales people are not always available, please make her your first point of contact for service problems, quote requests and technical information in order to ensure a prompt resolution.
 
Outside of the office, Heather spends every possible moment in the dance studio teaching Ballet, Jazz, and Lyrical dancing.  Once a year she co-drives for her Dad in the Targa Rally.
